Fax setup
			
			
			Follow these steps to setup fax
			
				- Verify that you have a Fax modem card and that it is 
				installed correctly
					- To do this look in the back of the computer to see if 
					you have the jacks for a phone cord to plug into
- Verify the modem is installed correctly
- 
					
					
						- You should see a Modems category
							- Double-click the Modems category
- If there is no X, !, or ? the driver is loaded 
							properly
 
 
 
- Connect the phone line from the wall to the jack in back of 
				the computer
					- Most modems have two jacks
						- Line jack (This one goes from 
						the phone line to the modem)
- 
						
							Phone jack (This one goes from 
						the computer to a phone, so you can still use a phone 
						when the modem is not using it) 
							- Make sure you have it plugged into the line jack
 
 
 
- Install the Fax Software
					- Open the 
					Run or Search window (will open in 
					a separate window)
- Type appwiz.cpl
- Click OK
 
					
					- 
					
						Select Add/Remove Windows Components 
						- Check the box next to Fax Services
- Click Next to install the software
- You may be asked to provide the Windows XP CD
							- If Welcome to Microsoft Windows window appears, 
							click Exit
 
- When the installation is complete, click Finish
 
 
					
						
					
- Check to see if the Fax is installed
						- Access
						
						
						Run 
						or Search window
- Type control printers
- Click OK
 
					
						
						- You should see a new printer labeled "Fax"
							- Printing a file to this printer is how you'll 
							send faxes
 
- Configure Fax settings
					- Access
					
					
					Accessories
- Click Communications
- 
					
						Click Fax 
						- 
						
							Click Fax Console 
							- Set the settings accordingly
								- Country/Region and Tone or Pulse dialing 
								should be preconfigured for you
- Enter your area code
- Click OK
 
 
 
 
					
						
							
								
							
- Phone and Modem Options window will appear
								- Verify the location you just configured is 
								highlighted
- Click OK
 
					
						
							
								
							
- The Fax Configuration Wizard will appear
								- The following windows will appear
- First page
									- Enter the personal information you want 
									to include on your fax cover pages
 
- Second page
									- Under the Please Select the Fax Device, 
									make sure your modem is listed
- If it isn't selected, select it via the 
									drop-down menu
- Verify the Enable Send option is 
									checked
- 
									
										If you want to be able to receive faxes, 
									check Enable Receive 
										- 
										The default setting on receive is 
										automatically answer incoming calls
											- If you are sharing the phone 
											line with a phone, you do not want 
											this enabled
- You will have to manually 
											receive when you want to receive 
											faxes and set the feature to Manual 
											Answer
 
 
 
- Third page
									- 
									
										TSID (Transmitting 
									Subscriber Identification) 
										- Appears along the top edge of every 
										fax page you send (it 
										usually consists of a name and fax 
										number)
 
 
- Fourth page
									- 
									
										CSID (Subsriber 
									Identification) 
										- A label that appears on fax machines 
										that sends faxes to you
 
 
- Fifth page
									- What happens to the incoming faxes
										- 
										Print the fax when it is received
											- What printer is used to print 
											the fax
- Store the fax and do not print 
											it
 
 
 
- Sixth page
									- Review and edit the settings
- When finished click Finish
 
 
- Send a Fax
					- In the program that you want to send a fax
						- Click File
- Click Print
- Select Fax
- 
						
							Click Print 
							- The fax wizard will appear
								- Follow the prompts
 
 
 
- 
					
						By default WinXP will always dial a 1 when faxing 
					outside your area code 
						- If you are required to dial a 1 and the area code 
						for local calls, you will have to setup a dialing rule
							- To do this
								- Access
								
								
								Run or Search window
- Type telephon.cpl
- Click OK
 
								
								- Click Edit
 
 
 
 
					
						
							
								
								
								
								- Click the Area Code Rules tab
- Click New
- Enter your area code
- Under rules, check the Dial box (a 
								"1" should already be there for you) as 
								well as the Include the Area Code box
- 
								
									Click OK
									
								 
- Receive a Fax
					- If you've configured WinXP to automatically answer 
					incoming calls, you do not need to do anything
- If you have it set to manually answer you have to do the 
					following
						- When the bubble appears that you are receiving a 
						call and you want the fax to answer, click the bubble
							- If you are using an answering machine on your 
							phone line, you have to make sure the computer picks 
							up the line before the answering machine
								- You can do this by setting the number of 
								rings for the fax to be less than the number of 
								rings for your answering machine.
