3.5 External Hard Drive Enclosure

Advantages of using an external hard drive

First you need to know if you have an ATA hard drive or a SATA hard drive. Click here to find out how to determine which one you have.

Some enclosures will take both SATA and ATA (IDE) drives.

Some enclosures have external power that you plug into the wall and some use the computer to power them. I have found that some systems will not provide enough power so I recommend an enclosure that you plug into an outlet.
